About Gary

Jack Stovell's original acrylic painting of Gary floating upside down beside the Moon
Where it started. Acrylic on canvas, by Jack Stovell.

Gary started as a painting by Jack Stovell, and the show still looks like one. Every frame is built in 3D and painted to match the original: brush strokes on the horse, puffy white outlines and a sky that goes dark at bedtime.

Each episode is about a minute and a half. Something floats past, Gary tries to eat it, and it goes wrong, gently. Then he goes back to sleep, usually upside down, and the Moon says goodnight.

Things people ask the Moon

How does he breathe?
Next question.
Why is a horse in space?
Nobody explains anything. That's a rule.
Does anything bad happen?
No. No danger, no villains, and nobody gets hurt. The worst thing that has happened so far is a sock getting away, and Gary didn't mind.
What day is it?
Tuesday.
Does Gary talk?
Never. He has ears, eyes, legs and a tail, and he uses them. The Moon does the talking.
